Join the Team

Thank you for your interest in the STORM Swim Team!


To best serve the wide range of swimmers wishing to join the team, tryouts for STORM will vary depending on swimmer age and ability.  Please see pre-requisite skills below.

 

All tryout evaluations are $75 per swimmer.  This fee is non-refundable and is not applied toward registration fees.

Swimmers ages 7 or 8 as of 12/1/2026


PREREQUISITE SKILLS

  • Legal backstroke and freestyle
  • Concept of breaststroke and butterfly
  • Ability to complete 2 laps of freestyle, 1 lap of stroke without stopping
  • Ability to dive, blocks or side


Swimmers ages 9-12 as of 12/1/2026


Only swimmers with competitive experience will be considered for the current season.  Swimmers without competitive experience are welcome to be evaluated for the 2027 Spring or Fall seasons.  Competitive experience is defined as swimmers with official times in SwimCloud, Meet Mobile, or USA Swimming.

Swimmers Interested in Joining for the 26-27 Season

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

9-10s and 11s (as of 12/1/26)

  • Swimmers should have YMCA Bronze qualifying times at a minimum.


12s (as of 12/1/26)

  • Swimmers should have YMCA Silver qualifying times at a minimum.

Swimmers Interested in Joining for the 27-28 Season

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

9-10s (as of 12/1/26)

  • Legal backstroke and freestyle
  • Legal breaststroke and/or butterfly
  • Complete 4 laps of freestyle, 1 lap of stroke without stopping

 

11-12s (as of 12/1/26)

  • All legal strokes
  • Complete 4 laps of freestyle, 2 laps of backstroke and breaststroke, 1 lap of butterfly without stopping.



Swimmers ages 13-18 as of 12/1/2026


PREREQUISITE SKILLS

Swimmers aged 13 or older as of 12/1/2026 must have competitive experience to be considered for the STORM team. Competitive experience is defined as swimmers with official times in SwimCloud, Meet Mobile, or USA Swimming.


13&Over swimmers interested in transferring to STORM should have a minimum of 4 YMCA Bronze qualifying times.  YMCA Time Standards

 

Swimmers who do not meet this standard can search for local team options at  USAswimming.org and NJYMCA Swimming.
